Merry Xmas everybody!

If you didn’t win any Anna Ferrara books in the Women & Words Hootenanny event this year, here’s another chance for you to buy one at a discount: I Heart Lesfic’s Mega New Year Sale where over 100 lesfic authors (including me) do Boxing Day sales from 26-30 Dec. I’m going to busy myself with ingesting the ton of chocolate in my fridge and boiled wine now. See you again next year!

I feel somewhat conflicted. I strongly believe it’s worthwhile to monetarily support indie authors, because e-books have set us free from the tyranny of traditional publishing houses who have rejected countless submissions for decades simply because they didn’t think there was a market for them, or didn’t want to offend anyone who has nothing better to do than get angry that there’s an LGBTQ book on the shelf of their local Barnes & Noble. I mean I guess it’s not the publishers’ or B&N’s fault, really. I mean I’m pretty sure the assistant manager of a bookstore isn’t paid enough to deal with a red-faced irate boomer with “concerns” about the “children” and the subsequent hushed passive-aggressive reprimands of a weaselly store manager who thinks he’s “just one of the gang” because he occasionally sends a cashier over to the cafe counter to get everyone the same watery flavor of non-fat soy latte. So in essence by supporting independent authors we are doing our part in our ongoing battle against the true enemy: our fellow human beings. We are assisting in the proliferation of art and civilization in spite of the democratic will of the majority. But when I buy books during sales for free, I look over at the person next to me on the bus and I feel I’m just not doing my part to crush his or her yearning for self-expression and unique voice into sheer irrelevancy, and well, it gives me pause.

On the other hand, FREE BOOKS!

    • Hahah well, if it makes you feel better I have never given any of my books away for free and don’t plan to. Mostly because I care about the feelings of those who actually paid for my books. 🙂
